Reading Mode is a tool offered in Microsoft Edge to help fight against internet distractions. It makes reading really easier. When Reading mode is on, all affiliate links to other articles and frustrating advertisements and go off. This leaves you with a clean, book-like interface, and whatever you are reading is front and center. You can get immersed in an article or story. Here is how to turn on.
Microsoft Edge comes with a new Web View Reader mode, that is completely familiar to Vivaldi & Firefox end users. With Reading View, Microsoft Edge provides a new, consistent, and stronger experience in all your documents, be it EPUB or Electronic PDF books, documents, or any web pages and digital electronic media. This feature uses Fluent Display Design System elements such as movement and Acrylic material to provide a pleasant and smooth experience that keeps the focus on the page. Users can change the display style and font size according to their wishes.
To switch on Reading Display quickly, there are special keys in the address bar and shortcut keys. Let's see how to use it.
To enable Reading View in Microsoft Edge, do the following.

1) Open Microsoft Edge.
2) Open the desired web page. E.g. the current article on Winaero supports the Reading View feature.
Click on the Reading View icon. See the screenshot.
4) Or, press the Ctrl + Shift + R.
This will activate the Reading Mode feature in the Microsoft Edge browser.

It should not delete images or other important data.
When the Read view is activated, the icon in the address bar appears blue. When disabled, the icon is black, indicating that the current reading display is turned off.
Note: If the Reading Display button is not available (gray), this means that the current web page does not support reading display or the browser cannot find the markup element that can be deleted.
By pressing the Ctrl + Shift + R button in the Reading view that is activated it will deactivate it.
Change the Reading View style and font size
There are special panels available in Reading View. This allows the application of different styles to the text.
To change the Reading Display style, do the following.
1) Press the Ctrl + Shift + O button or click on an empty area on the page.
2) Click on the font icon (See screenshot).
3) Modify the Text size, Text spacing, Font style, and Page theme options according to your preferences.
How to enable and disable reading display
First thing: let's see how to enable and disable read display on web pages.
- Launch Edge from the Start menu, desktop, or taskbar.
- Navigate to the webpage that contains the article you want to read.
- Launch Edge. Navigate to the article.
- Click the read read button - located near the top of the window and looks like an open book. If it is gray, the reading display is not available on this page.
- Click the read button again to return to the normal web page.
- Click the read button to activate the read view. Click the button again to return to normal view.
How to change the display style in the read view
Many people find reading black text on a white background a burden on the eyes. There are several different display options when you jump to the reading view that you and your eyes will appreciate.
- Launch Edge from the Start menu, desktop, or taskbar.
- Click the Other button - it is located near the top right corner of the window.
- Click Settings.
- Click the drop down arrow under the Reading view style. You might have to scroll down a little in the menu to find it.
- Click display style. You can choose from:
- Small
- Medium
- Big
- Extra large
- Click the More button again to close the menu. The next time you switch to reading view, the display style will change.
- Click display style. Click the Other button to exit the menu.
How to change the font size in the read view
One of the best features of display reading is the ability to change font size - you can have smaller fonts when you glance at larger content and fonts when you're ready to read. Here's how to change the font size.
- Launch Edge from the Start menu, desktop, or taskbar.
- Click the Other button - it is located near the top right corner of the window.
- Click Settings.
- Click the drop down arrow below the Read font size of the display. You might have to scroll down a little in the menu to find it.
- Click font size. You can choose from:
- Small
- Medium
- Big
- Extra large
- Click the More button again to close the menu. The next time you enter the reading view, the font will be resized.
